20hr Neurodiversity & Invisible Illness
in Yoga & Movement training

The 20hr Neurodiversity & Invisible Illness in Yoga & Movement training is a deep dive into both the theory and the practice of understanding and working with people with different brains.
The training begins with discussing the concept of Neurodiversity, the key terms and language that surrounds the neuro-affirming paradigm. From this foundation, we will cover, in detail:
The Why ~ Understanding Neurodivergent conditions and their strengths and challenges
ADHD in adults, late diagnosis, and the difference between male and female presentations
Autism, the history of this condition, the ways that it can impact and shape the lives of those who see and experience the world differently
AuDHD: the crossover between ADHD and Autism and the co-occurring nature of these presentations
Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and how these ways of understanding and interpreting words, language, numbers and the coordination of the body might be different for these neurotypes
C-PTSD, a form of acquired neurodiversity, and how complex trauma can shape the way our brain and nervous system interacts with the world around us
Common co-occuring conditions of
PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder),
Invisible Illnesses commonly experienced by neurodivergent individuals.
Hypermobility/EDS,
Dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome/ Orthostatic Intolerance (POTS/OI),
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)

Daily movement / yoga practices on the in-person days & neurodivergent designed movement breaks and rest options
Recordings of the 2 x online zoom sessions at the start and conclusion of the training

Location for in-person sessions:
The in-person sessions are held at the amazing Salt & Wood (website here) in Ocean Grove, Victoria. Caz is a teacher at Salt & Wood, and Phoebe who will be guest lecturing is a co-owner of the space. This location was chosen because of its calming location, sensory flexibility (yes, those lights are dimmable!) and its proximity to the centre of Ocean Grove village.

Jennifer Smallridge, Exercise Physiologist & Clinical Educator, Clinical Pilates, Therapuetic Yoga, Co-Founder of Connection Medicine (Invisible Illnesses)
Jen is a senior accredited Exercise Physiologist and Clinical Educator. She has also undertaken further training in Clinical Pilates and Therapeutic Yoga, and now loves to apply these skills when working with the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), central sensitivity, chronic migraine, Fibromyalgia, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), chronic pain, Dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome/ Orthostatic Intolerance (POTS/OI) community.
Jennifer has a lifelong love of learning and is constantly delving into the literature on these topics. She has a passion for making complex concepts more simple and accessible to all. This has led her to follow career opportunities in the university sector, corporate wellbeing and the media. Currently, Jennifer works with a predominantly invisible illness caseload at Beyond in Blackburn and Hawthorn.

Florence Kelly, Exercise Physiologist and Yoga teacher, Co-Founder of Connection Medicine
Florence has a strong passion in providing care for the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), central sensitivity, chronic migraine, Fibromyalgia, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), chronic pain, Dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome/ Orthostatic Intolerance (POTS/OI) community.spent the last 10 years working with this client group in the private practice sector and now owns her own practice which is 100% dedicated to clients with chronic invisible illness. She has also created and led multidisciplinary allied health teams allowing larger, more diverse opportunities for clients to reach services. Over years of mentoring and training various health professionals, Florence has seen an immense potential in the medical and allied health community to play a significant role in the rehabilitation of clients who are often put in the “too hard basket”. She sees her role as connecting practitioners to the resources, knowledge and community which allows them to ignite a deep passion in the truly rewarding role they can play in the life of these deserving clients.

Phoebe Hope-Malone, Co-Founder of Salt & Wood, Yoga for Amputees, Prosthetist and Orthotist (Touch, and mindful physical assistance)
Phoebe's yoga journey began while volunteering in the Philippines, where she taught yoga to amputees. She completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training and specialised in amputee yoga, prenatal yoga and yin. Three years ago Phoebe moved to the Bellarine with her husband and two young children and started teaching yoga. With a history of 20 years working as a healthcare professional in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics, her classes combine a balance of strong flowing sequences with a focus on alignment and biomechanics. Carefully sequenced with music and always providing options for modifications be ready to move, flow and smile in Phoebes classes.

Course Structure AND WAYS TO ATTEND:
Option 1: Both in-person over the face to face days and online for the 2 x Wednesday nights. We have a limit of 20 people in the studio space, so letting us know whether you will not attend in-person for the Friday to Sunday you can opt for Option 2
Option 2: Fully online and live across the same dates and times (we will have zoom sessions available for Friday - Sunday)
Option 3: Engage via some online and some recordings at your own pace.

Tier 1: for those with stable access to financial resources who can assist others to participate in Tier 2 - $770 (inc GST)
Tier 2: for folks with access to fluctuating financial resources - $730 (inc GST)

Full payment of the course is due by 10th June
If you are unable to make this payment date and have not discussed an alternate arrangement with us, we will assume your withdrawal from the course and offer your place to another.
Cancellations:
If you cancel your enrolment 90 days or more before the course begins, you will receive a full refund.
For cancellations made 60 or more days prior to the start date, you will be eligible for a 75% refund.
If you cancel 30 or more days before the course starts, you will receive a 50% refund.
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 30 days of the course start date.
